RENE - Better Than To Brood

"Better Than To Brood" was written about walking away from a relationship with my best friend of over a decade, after feeling that I had continuously put her feelings before mine while she didn't do the same for me. It was a repetition of her behaviour that made me realise it was a pattern, and when it got to the last straw, I decided to distance myself from her. The light-heartedness of the music undercuts the seriousness of the lyrics and that also reflects the way I felt about it - I tried to play it off on the surface but I was really hurt under it all.
